Trim Levels
The entry-level Suburban is the LS. It comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A step up to the LT gets you a hands-free liftgate, while the RST gains 22-inch wheels, black exterior trim, and redesigned front fascia. The Z71 is up next with 20-inch wheels, a two-speed transfer case, a redesigned front fascia to increase ground clearance, a front tow hook, a skid plate, and black and chrome exterior trim elements. The Premier adds magnetically controlled shock absorbers, and the High Country has bronze accents in the grille.
Engine
The standard engine for the Suburban is a 5.3-liter V-8 gas engine that develops 355 horsepower. It works with a 10-speed automatic transmission and comes with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available at any trim level. A 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 horsepower is optional for the RST, Premier, and Z71, and this engine is standard for the High Country. You can also get a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel with 277 horsepower.
Performance
Any of the engines provide the Suburban with plenty of power for everyday driving on the road. The Z71 has the most ground clearance if you expect to take the SUV over rough terrain, and if you need to tow, when equipped with the 5.3-liter V-8, this SUV can pull up to 8,300 pounds.
Interior
There's room for up to eight or nine in the Suburban, and everyone has space to spread out. It comes standard with power-adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, with driver's seat memory settings and heated front seats added to the LT and above. The Premier and High Country have second-row bucket seats, a power-folding third row, and ventilated front seats.
Technology features in the Suburban start with an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moving up through the lineup gets you some tech upgrades such as a larger 10.2-inch touch screen, either a nine- or 10-speaker Bose stereo, and wireless charging. A rear-seat entertainment system is optional for any trim.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Suburban comes with a comprehensive list of standard driver safety aids. It includes forward collision warning with mitigation, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and front and rear parking sensors. The Premier and High Country add a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and the High Country also adds a head-up display, a digital rearview camera, and a rear pedestrian alert.
A traffic adaptive cruise control system is optional for most trims, and the Premier and High Country also offer the option for Super Cruise. This hands-free driving technology works on hundreds of mapped highways across the country.
