The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox comes in three trims, LT, RS and ACTIV, and all three run the same 1.5L turbocharged
four-cylinder through an eight-speed automatic.
In front-wheel drive the LT launched at $29,000 and the RS and ACTIV both arrived at $33,900; all-wheel drive adds
$2,000 to any of the three, excluding destination. Fuel economy moves with the drivetrain rather than the trim, so front-wheel drive is rated
27 mpg combined and all-wheel drive 26. On a Central Indiana commute both of those figures matter more
than the badge on the tailgate.
So the drivetrain moves the price and the mileage; the trim moves the price and the way the vehicle is dressed and shod,
but not what is under the hood. That makes the drivetrain the first thing to settle.

What Every 2027 Equinox Shares

One step up from the LT, then no further. Separately, all-wheel drive adds $2,000 to any trim
That leaves the drivetrain and the trim. The drivetrain is the one that changes how the Equinox handles a bad winter
morning, what it returns at the pump, and what it costs.
Trims and Pricing
This lineup asks two money questions, not three: one trim step of $4,900, and $2,000 for all-wheel drive. On price,
nothing separates the RS from the ACTIV at all.

The least expensive way into a new Equinox, and a sensible first new SUV.

Shoppers who have moved past the entry trim and are choosing on how a vehicle is equipped rather than on what it

ACTIV

configuration and any program running at the time.
Most people set a budget and let it pick the trim for them. On this lineup that works only as far as the LT.
Engine and Fuel Economy
One engine and one transmission cover the whole lineup, so neither the trim nor the options move the fuel numbers on a
2027 Equinox. The drivetrain does, and only on one of the three ratings.

Ratings are estimates. Real mileage moves with how and where you drive, what you are carrying and the weather.
City and highway come out the same either way. All-wheel drive gives up one mpg on the combined rating and nothing on the
other two. Over a 12,000-mile year that gap works out to about 17 gallons of fuel, and it grows with the miles.
Front-Wheel Drive or All-Wheel Drive
Around Madison County the case for all-wheel drive rests on ice rather than on hills or snow depth. The ground here is
flat to gently sloping, so nothing needs climbing. What a winter does bring is a handful of days when rain turns over to
snow or freezing rain and the road goes slick before the plows come back around.
Against that, all-wheel drive costs $2,000 up front and one mpg combined. Here is how that trade lands on a few real
driving patterns.
If your driving looks like this
The better fit
Why
Short trips close to home, and the Equinox parks in a garage
Front-wheel drive
The ground is flat, the runs are short, and good winter tires cover a normal season here.
A highway commute that starts before the plows have been through
All-wheel drive
Those early runs are when the icy mornings catch people, and the highway rating is the same either way.
Winter mornings are the part of the year you think about
All-wheel drive
The extra driven wheels earn their keep on a cold, untreated surface at the start of a trip.
Mixed driving, and your real worry is what it costs
Front-wheel drive
It saves the $2,000 up front and holds the higher combined rating, worth about 17 gallons across a 12,000-mile year.
Which Trim Should You Choose
Once the drivetrain is settled, the trim decision is short.
If this is you
Start with
Why
The entry price is the number that decides it
LT
It opens the lineup, and nothing under its hood is a lesser version of the others.
You want all-wheel drive more than you want a higher trim
LT
An all-wheel-drive LT at $31,000 still lands well under either front-wheel-drive upper trim.
You are past the entry trim and shopping on how it feels
RS or ACTIV
They launched at the same price, so the table below is the thing to read, not the sticker
Dollar figures are 2027 launch MSRPs, destination excluded.
Price will not separate the RS from the ACTIV, so here is what does. These are the headline differences Chevrolet draws
between the trims, not a full equipment list.
Trim
What Chevrolet puts forward as its own
LT
Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, plus available HD Surround Vision. The engine and the 11.3-inch
touchscreen it also lists are standard on all three
RS
The blacked-out look: black mirrors, moldings, emblems and badging, a flat-bottom steering wheel, standard 19-inch
and available 20-inch machined wheels, and an available two-tone black roof
ACTIV
The go-anywhere set: all-terrain tires, a uniquely tuned suspension, Evotex and sueded-microfiber seating surfaces,
and an available two-tone white roof
The RS is the appearance trim: black exterior trim, bigger wheels, a flat-bottom steering wheel. The ACTIV is the one that
changes what the vehicle rides on, with all-terrain tires and a suspension tuned for them. Both start at the same money,
so this is a question of which suits your roads and which you would rather sit in, not which costs more.
One color settles itself: Autumn Harvest Metallic is new for 2027 and is offered on the LT and the ACTIV only, not the RS.
Room, Cargo and Towing
The Equinox is a two-row SUV that seats five. It is 183.2 inches long, just over fifteen feet, which is the figure that
decides whether it fits the garage you already have. Unloaded it weighs between 3,428 and 3,629 pounds, depending on
drive type, trim and how it is equipped.
Cargo space runs to 63.5 cubic feet at maximum. That maximum is measured with the rear seat folded, not up, so treat it as
the number for a hardware run or a move rather than for a full car of passengers and their luggage.
Towing is where an honest word is worth more than a big number. Properly equipped, the Equinox is rated to pull up to
1,500 pounds. That covers a small utility trailer or a light pair of watercraft. Most travel trailers and any loaded car
hauler are well beyond it. If a camper is in your plans, you are shopping the wrong size of vehicle, and it is better to
know that now than at the hitch.
Technology and Safety
Every 2027 Equinox runs an 11.3-inch diagonal touchscreen with Google built-in, OnStar connectivity, and Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto compatibility, plus voice command for apps, music, maps and messages. Wireless phone charging is
available.
New for 2027 is an available Interior Camera, which gives you a glance into the cabin and can keep security recordings. It
is a 2027 addition, so a 2026 Equinox does not have it.
On safety, Chevrolet states that the 2027 Equinox carries over 15 standard safety and driver assistance features,
including Chevy Safety Assist, its bundle of six. None of that is a trim you climb to or a box you tick; it is on every
one of them.
Crash-test ratings for new vehicles come from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA has not
published an overall rating for the 2027 Equinox. New model years are often rated part-way through the year, so one may
appear later. We will not quote a number until it does.
Warranty Coverage
Every new 2027 Equinox leaves with the same coverage, whichever trim and drivetrain you pick.
Coverage

5 years or 60,000 miles
Corrosion limited

Rust-through

Scheduled maintenance
1 visit, at 12 months or 12,000 miles
Certain commercial, government and qualified fleet vehicles carry 5 years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain and on

One term worth lining up: a 36-month lease ends at the same point the bumper-to-bumper coverage does.

Rows. The Equinox is two rows and five seats, with up to 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space and a 1,500-pound tow
rating. The Traverse is three rows, seats up to eight, and opens to about 98 cubic feet with the rear rows

is part of the plan, the Equinox is the wrong end of the lineup. If nobody does, the Equinox is the easier
