Mounds State Park

Mounds State Park is located at 4306 Mounds Road in Anderson, Indiana. It's open daily from dawn to dusk, and admission is free. It is a beautiful park that offers visitors an outdoor museum with ten unique Native American earthworks to explore. The park also features an interpretive center where visitors can learn more about the earthworks and fishing opportunities at Mounds Lake, camping areas, picnic spots, and walking trails.

Anderson Center for the Arts

The Anderson Center for the Arts is a museum dedicated to promoting local artists and art in Anderson. The museum offers exhibitions, educational programs, and special events with a mission to encourage appreciation of the arts through exposure and education. The Center also houses the Anderson Museum of Art, which features a variety of exhibits focusing on art and history in the region.

Ball State University Museum of Art

The Ball State University Museum of Art is housed in the Fine Arts Building on the campus of Ball State University. The museum is open to the public at no charge. It features a permanent collection of over 6,000 works of art. Exhibits include selections from the permanent collection and national traveling shows available to view during your visit. The museum is open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays and university holidays.

The Artworks

The Artworks is a museum and gallery space for the art of local youth. Established in 1999, The Artworks is housed in four large buildings along Meridian Street in downtown Anderson. This includes the Paramount Theater, built-in 1929, and has been beautifully restored to serve as one of the city's premier performance venues. The Artworks also hosts several classes and programs for local students, including summer camps and after-school activities.

Indiana Glass Museum

The Indiana Glass Museum is located inside the factory at the same site where glassmaking began in Dunkirk, Indiana, in 1896. The museum features a collection of over 5,000 pieces, including the first piece of glass ever made in Indiana and the most extensive collection of Indiana glass in the world. There is an exhibit on glassmaking techniques and a self-guided tour of the plant. The five museums on this list are a great place to start for museum-hopping in Anderson.
