With all of the various COVID-19 restrictions recently, especially focused on entertainment venues, it is important to plan ahead for any visit to an attraction, including the Anderson Museum of Art. These four tips for planning your visit to this museum will help ensure you get the most out of your trip. Four Tips for Planning Your Visit to the Anderson Museum of Art more Know When to Go The museum's gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The hours of operation for Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, the museum opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, the museum is only open for three hours between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Additionally, the gallery is closed on Thanksgiving and throughout the following weekend, opening again on the Wednesday following the Thanksgiving holiday. You can visit the museum on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day this year, as they fall on a Thursday and Friday. The same is true for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It is open for all other holidays that do not fall on a Monday or Tuesday. How to Get There and Where to Park The building that houses the museum is located in downtown Anderson at West 10th Street and Jackson Street. Jackson Street from the north will bring you right to the building, as will Doctor MLK Jr. Boulevard from the south. From the east or west, take 8th Street to Jackson, turn south on Jackson and drive to 10th Street, where you'll see the building. There is no parking lot specifically for the museum, but there is a 50-lot city parking area located 1/2 block east of the building that is free on weekends and in the evenings. About 35 vehicles can park behind the museum and there are angled parking spots available on 10th Street. If all these spots are filled, there is also a parking garage located between 10th Street and 11th Street on Meridian and Main, which is within a short walking distance. Know the Fees In a regular year, the fees to visit the museum are $4 for adults, $2.50 for senior citizens over the age of 55, and $2.00 for students. Children under the age of four are free. There is also an $8.00 family rate for two adults and up to four children. The first Sunday of each month is free. However, 2020 is not a regular year. In March, the museum announced that it had received enough donations from its Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign to provide free admission for everyone through December 31, 2020. It is important to note, though, that the museum is still charging for tours, which run between $3 per person to $5 per person, depending on which tours you take. Minimums also apply (between $20 and $50, again depending on which tours you choose). Know What to See Various temporary exhibits will be on display during your visit, but because they are not permanent, you will need to check the website or call the museum to discover the art that is currently being showcased. For example, the current temporary exhibits are Open Space: Art About the Land Retrospective, React. Revolt. Repeat., and the Art Association of Madison County's annual fall exhibition. There is also the permanent art collection that will always be on display at the museum.
