Here are some of our favorites. 4 Classic American Cafes in Anderson more Lemon Drop This small restaurant is recognized as one of the best places to eat in the whole area and has been serving food to residents and visitors for over 60 years. The restaurant originally opened in 1954 and still boasts its old-style neon sign and bright yellow interior. On the menu, you'll find classics like hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled and breaded tenderloin sandwiches, and grilled cheese, as well as classic sides like french fries, chili, and onion rings. If you're extra hungry, we suggest the hamburger steak or grilled tenderloin dinner. For dessert, treat yourself to one of their incredible milkshakes. Becky's Happy Mule Café If you're looking for a restaurant where you can grab breakfast or lunch, head over to Becky's Happy Mule Café, open from 5 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you're there for breakfast and are feeling particularly hungry, go for the 8-ounce ribeye with two eggs, potatoes, and toast, or the Happy Mule Breakfast, with two eggs and a choice of one pancake or french toast. If you're in the mood for an omelet, you can't go wrong with the cowboy omelet with beef, green peppers, onions, and cheese. The mini mule omelet is also a great choice if you want something light, as it is made with only one egg, ham, and cheese. You can also never go wrong with the homemade biscuits and gravy. Cabbage Rose Eatery and Gift Shop For some great options for lunch, swing by the Cabbage Rose Eatery and Gift Shop. This restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m and features items like an open-faced turkey sandwich, a seasoned grilled chicken sandwich, and a chicken wrap. We highly suggest trying the tenderloin sandwich, which is hand-dipped in the restaurant's very own batter and fried to perfection. If you want something light, we recommend the Island Chicken Wrap, made with grilled teriyaki chicken, fresh pineapple, shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Bonge's Tavern Another great option if you're in the mood for some classic American fare is Bonge's Tavern, which is just outside of Anderson. On the menu, you'll find options like the Perkinsville Pork, a pork loin that's pounded thin, breaded with parmesan, and pan-fried, and a New York Strip. If you're visiting the restaurant on a Friday or Saturday, we suggest trying the AppleWood Smoked Prime Rib, available in a 10-ounce or 16-ounce. Some of the sides include potatoes, cornbread, soup, or a salad. Don't skip out on dessert, either, as the restaurant has some delicious options to choose from. If you're in the mood for chocolate, go for the Chocolate Sugar Cream Cake or the Dark Chocolate Ganache Tart. We also highly recommend the Strawberry Streusel Cake.
